Dakota Kendall, a local martial artist, is actively working on this event.

Winter Springs High School Leadership is planning a county-wide battle of the bands to help Hope Helps. They help homeless families in Central Florida. Admission is a regular grocery bag of canned or non perishable food or personal items teens need like deodorant, socks, shampoo and so on. This event is open all types of bands from Marching Bands to Hard Core Rock! The goal is to have fun and help a great charity.

To enter the drawing, make an online donation between 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 to 5 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2010.

Simply drive to the Blue Parking Lot at the Amway Center (located off Hughey Ave, parallel to I-4, just past Hughey and Church) stay in your car, and volunteers will meet you and exchange passes for donations, right through your car window.

World Food Day on October 16 reminds the world that around one in seven people alive today are going hungry. Wherever you are, from New York to New Delhi, if you have access to Internet, you’re can help fight hunger. Here are ten things you can do now:

1. Play the new FreeRice game
Go to FreeRice.com and play the social new version of this popular quiz game. For every right answer, 10 grains of rice go to the hungry. It’s the advertisers who pay, not you.

2. Tweet hunger facts to friends
Use Twitter to send the three facts you see to the right to a few friends. You can find a few of our suggested tweets on the right. You’re already helping tell the world about hunger.

3. Put a photo on the ‘Wall’
If you want a cool gift for a loved one, think about this: honour them by donating to the Wall Against Hunger.

4. Play Food Force
Download this compelling computer game and direct your own emergency food mission to the drought and war-torn island of Sheylan. Share with kids, who will love the fast-paced gameplay.

5. Go ‘On the road’ with WFP
Check out the On the road video blog. It’ll show you what’s involved in fighting hunger worldwide and help you understand why WFP does what it does.

6. Make a meal with a dollar
Want something offline? How about cooking a meal for less than $1. Invite your friends to join you, but tell them that around a billion people do this every day.

9. Tell a teacher about wfp.org
We would love to see hunger issues talked about more in school. Download some suggested lesson plans from  students and teachers and pass them on to a teacher you know.

Why is nutrition so important? Find out in just two minutes with this animated video and share it with your friends.

Iris rocks the Combine Challenge Course at the University of Central Florida gym. This event was hosted by the TKD Club @ UCF to help the Second Harvest Food Bank. Sponsors included Logos Promote, Karate Depot, comBATON, Tan Dao Kung Fu, Combat Trainer, DC Turnbull Martial Arts, 2 Dog Photography, Allen’s Martial Arts and people who support Martial Artists Fighting Hunger.

The 6 challenge course includes physical accuracy, jumping, kicking, sprinting, agility, takedowns. As a example of a challenge, the takedown requires the contestant to kick a grappling dummy held by a official and execute a full takedown.

Registration starts at 8 am August 28, 2010 at UCF’s Ferrell Commons Auditorium located on Gemini Blvd. South at the University of Central Florida.
