Sifu David Lewisof the St. Cloud Kung Fu and Tai Chi Club is adding a challenge to the August 18th Martial Artists Fighting Hunger event. The purpose of the challenge is to emphasize stance and technique. Without proper implementation of these skills the martial artist will lack POWER. It’s called Rooted Budda.

This challenge uses padded weapons of all types: short swords, long swords, Kali sticks, staffs and shields. All padded weapons and headgear with face guards will be provided by Sifu Lewis. He volunteered in 2009 and was an excellent coach and official. You can see a clip of him at that event on YouTube here.

The event will be clearly explained to participants before it starts. Master David Turnbull and Steve Blanton of Combaton are planning the other events.

Please plan to join us on August 18, 2012 at the RDV Center in Maitland, Florida.

Save the Date

We’re back after a hiatus last year with a new domain name MartialArtistsFightingHunger.org. It seems spammers took over our previous domain and the “org” works better for us anyway as all donations go to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Our next event is scheduled for August 18, 2012 at at 10 am at the RDV Athletic Center in Maitland, Fl. It is a beautiful facility. Masters Paul and Ginger Allen have been teaching martial arts there for years and we’ve had Combaton games there as well.

More information will be coming after Steve talks with Master Turnbull and the Allens when they return from the AAU TKD Nationals. We have a facebook page, please like us if you’re on there.

Dakota Kendall, a local martial artist, is actively working on this event.

Winter Springs High School Leadership is planning a county-wide battle of the bands to help Hope Helps. They help homeless families in Central Florida. Admission is a regular grocery bag of canned or non perishable food or personal items teens need like deodorant, socks, shampoo and so on. This event is open all types of bands from Marching Bands to Hard Core Rock! The goal is to have fun and help a great charity.

Make an ONLINE gift to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida of $50 or more from Tuesday, November 23 – Friday, December 31 and be automatically entered into a drawing for (1) Orlando Magic star center Dwight Howard – autographed replica jersey framed by Mounted Memories and (1) Orlando Magic Player Rashard Lewis – autographed basketball (case display by Mounted Memories). There will be two winners, one for each prize.

To enter the drawing, make an online donation between 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 to 5 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2010.
